«Traduire au XXIè siècle»
Henri MESCHONNIC

ESSAY ON THE PRINCIPLES OF TRANSLATION

Essay on the Principles of Translation

«There is perhaps no department of literature which has been less the object of cultivation, than the Art of Translating. Even among the ancients, who seem to have had a very just idea of its importance, and who have accordingly ranked it among the most useful branches of literary education, we meet with no attempt to unfold the principles of this art, or to reduce it to rules. In the works of Quinctilian, of Cicero, and of the Younger Pliny, we find many passages which prove that these authors had made translation their peculiar study ; and, conscious themselves of its utility, they have strongly recommended the practice of it, as essential towards the formation both of a good writer and an accomplished orator. perseus digital library

An evolving collection of resources for the study of the ancient world, including archaeology, atlas, texts and translations, text tools and lexica.
Editor-in-Chief: Gregory R. Crane (Tufts University)

Perseus Digital Library

«Our larger mission is to help make the full record for humanity as intellectually accessible as possible to every human being, providing information adapted to as many linguistic and cultural backgrounds as possible. Our work in the 2008-09 academic year focuses upon the three most widespread classical languages of the Mediterranean world: Greek, Latin, and Arabic. Many readers familiar with Greek and Latin do not realize that early Islamic scholars were the most advanced classicists of their time. In some cases, Greek scholarship re-entered the West through the circulation of Arabic translations and some ancient Greek works now exist only in the Arabic translations that Islamic scholars produced. This work should, however, be seen within the context of our broader mission and the more than twenty years of research that preceded it. Augmenting access to the three classical languages represents only one component, however significant, in the network of resources that will make the full human record accessible in more ways and to wider audiences than ever before. Classicists and the scholars of the Western world can only contribute to a part of this vast goal. [...] »

codex sinaiticus project

The Codex Sinaiticus Project is an international collaboration to reunite the entire manuscript in digital form and make it accessible to a global audience for the first time.
The four principal partners in the Codex Sinaiticus Project are the institutions which hold parts of the manuscript: The British Library (UK), The Leipzig University Library (Germany), The St Catherine's Monastery (Sinai), and The National Library of Russia (St Petersburg).

Codex Sinaiticus

«[...] Handwritten well over 1600 years ago, the manuscript contains the Christian Bible in Greek, including the oldest complete copy of the New Testament. Its heavily corrected text is of outstanding importance for the history of the Bible and the manuscript – the oldest substantial book to survive Antiquity – is of supreme importance for the history of the book.
Codex Sinaiticus is named after the Monastery of Saint Catherine, Mount Sinai, where it was preserved for many centuries. It is generally dated to the middle of the fourth century. Leaves and fragments of this manuscript were taken by Constantine Tischendorf on three occasions – in 1844, in 1853, and in 1859 – so that they might be published.

the complete works of charles darwin online
A single site for all of Darwin's published and unpublished writings including a major catalogue of his every publication and manuscript in the world.
Director: John van Whye (Cambridge University)

The Complete Works of Charles Darwin Online

«The Complete Work of Charles Darwin Online (or Darwin Online) began in 2002 to assemble in one scholarly website all of Darwin's published writings and unpublished papers. It does not cover his unpublished letters which were already the focus of the Correspondence of Charles Darwin. Darwin Online is the largest and most widely used Darwin resource ever created. More copies of Darwin's works have been downloaded from Darwin Online than have been published by all publishers combined. The site contains over 87,000 pages of searchable text and 200,000 electronic images. It contains at least one exemplar of all known Darwin publications, reproduced to the highest scholarly standards, both as searchable text and electronic images of the originals. The majority of these have been edited and annotated with thousands of original editorial notes for the first time. [...] »
